Hello,
I am trying to automate the extraction of data on the web using Excel 2003. I have found pieces of code to login but at the next step a link on which my code clicks opens a new window. Now that new window open in internet explorer and not excel. Hence i cannot retrieve data from that window. I do not know how to prevent the brower to open a link in a new window (from the vba code). Does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks

my old comp crashed about two years ago (problem with power supply i think) but i now have a crappy dell laptop to get by. so heres the question, is there a decently inexpensive way i can tranfer files (coughporncough) from the hard drive of my old pc to my current computer. the tower has been gutted out since then so now all i have is the hard drive unit and some random wires and such. id prefer to do it myself if possible because i have alot of racy pictures of ex girlfriends and such. any help is greatly appreciated.
::edit:: lol its nothing sick, im just trying to get all the videos i paid for so i dont have to buy new stuff, and ive seen enough web sites to know how many people in the comp buisness steal and circulate pictures of other peoples ex-gfs, and i have bad enough relations with them as it is without that coming back on me too.

I need to from VB.NET 2005, to go through a large number of Excel with different content and organization: Look at cell content, copy rows etc.
The most important is extraction, perhaps writing out in new Excel files, or deleting from the files I am extracting from.
I know about automation as in

I think the main alternative is ADO.NET, or perhaps classic ADO? Or ADO.NET without datasets? I know you can also go through SQL Server, but I am not database person.
There is also Office Web Components, but I think that is more for presenting data in Web Pages

I am trying to figure out a way to extract and store data into excel from the web.
This is not a simple web query where a table is imported into excel - I wish it was that easy.
I need to have excel send each individual cell's data to the website and bring back the resulting information, and then repeat it for the following cell's unique data.
A good example would be like a phone book if you had a phone number going into a cross directory.....and then the resulting information would give a name and address....then you go on to the next phone number and continue.

I have sort of asked this question on yahoo before and I was guided to testing tools. In my current situation I am not testing anything.Here are the steps I need to automate.Go to a WebSite, simulate a couple of mouse clicks, enter today's date and extract PDF files and save them on the network. I need to do thousands of iterations of this everyday.
I do not see why I should use QTP or Win Runner that have a complicated backend repository of object in record and re-run mode. Is anyone else aware of simple automation tools that will help me script these steps and run these.
I am not a programmer but if you have a programming related solution for me-bring it on. I want to evaluate and automate this task with least performance overhead.

What kind of questions should I expect? They did no specify any skills, just a bachelors degree and relevant experience.
The job entails developement, support and training of end users for the financial transformation program. Also, data extraction and processing from end users data base.

I am retired university professor whose passion is historical images, and part of my hobby is to download these items. However, some of these items are elusive but are available from one end of the worldwide spectrum to another. Because some of these images are so large, a website only allows to see a portion of the image at one time. I have used "Capturewiz" to capture tif, jpg2000, and many other large dimensional images of many file formats. I have spent hours piecing the sections to together, to reproduce the whole picture.
I purchase a application called "BROWN RECLUSE" that is a data mining, except that I remained a failure in extracting anything other internal pages. They comment on plug-ins that you can write and program yourself, but I do not have this ability? They also have another program called "BLACK WIDOW" that also can rummage around within the site. None of these sites are password protected, but MUST USE TIF format or other large image extraction.
Need help.

I wanted to extract .jpg photos from a crashed hard drive. I was able to get a dump of the data using dd. I next extracted a 5MB chuck of data every time I saw the magic number for .jpg. This worked except I am not quite sure how to tell how much data to strip off the end of the chunk? How do I tell by looking at the jpeg header (or by some other means).

I recently received a CD with wedding photos in it, but the problem is that I cannot remove the pictures from the CD since they are copyrighted. The photographer used a program called FlipAlbum 5 to make a flip book with the pictures. I want to be able to extract the pictures, but it's not an option that's shown in the CD, since he disabled the option to save the pictures to a different location. The place in the cd where the pictures are located (apart from the autorun spot where you view the pics in an album) makes the pictures come up fuzzy so that I can't save them and keep them looking good. Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks.

| • Chronic CRC error problems; what's causing it? |

I am aware that CRC errors can stem from bad/corrupted data, srcatched discs and improperly downloaded files. Here's the thing though, I've already confirmed several files and discs that I have that are in good working condition by using it on several other PCs. No problems with extraction and installation.
However, when I use the same files and discs on my PC, there's always some kind of error, usually a CRC error that hinders installation of a program or game. My DVD drive is definitely not the problem since I transfered it to a different PC and it worked fine. Same w/ some of the downloaded files I got. Works elsewhere except on my PC. What in the world is causing this?
If it were a hardware problem, which piece of hardware should I consider troubleshooting or replacing? I've already gone through the paces of trying to look for a software problem, but there doesn't seem to be a problem w/ my software.
By the way, I have managed to install other programs w/o a hitch so could that rule out my SATA HD? I've also ruled out the cable since I've tried the same cable elsewhere. I'm thinking MoBo or RAM has a problem.

The Indus River Dolphin has a long beak and a stocky body. It has a low triangular hump on its back in place of a 'true' dorsal fin. It is gray-brown in color, sometimes with a pinkish belly. The eyes are extremely small, resembling pinhole openings slightly above the mouth. The Indus River dolphin measures between 1.5 - 2.5 m (5 - 8') in length and weighs 80 - 90 kg (180 - 200 lb). The Indus River dolphin generally occurs in the deepest river channel and is less common in secondary channels and small braids. Reported habitat preferences include channel constrictions, confluences, and deep, low-velocity water.
The Indus River dolphin feeds mostly on several species of fish and invertebrates. It does much of its feeding at or near the bottom, using echolocation, swimming on one side, and probing the river bottom with its snout and its flipper. Although it is not usually considered to be gregarious, relatively high densities are found at sites where rivers join, in areas where the current is relatively weak, off the mouths of irrigation canals, and near villages and ferry routes.
The Indus River dolphin is endemic to the rivers of the lower Indus River basin in Pakistan. Historically, it ranged from the Indus delta upstream to the Himalayan foothills where rocky barriers or shallow water prevented further upstream movement. Currently the distribution of the Indus River dolphin is severely fragmented and dramatically reduced in extent. The linear extent of its occurrence has declined from approximately 3,400 km (2100 mi) of Indus River mainstem and its tributaries in the 1870's to approximately 1,000 km (600 mi) of the mainstem at present. Currently the Indus River dolphin is limited to three subpopulations in the Indus mainstem located between the Chashma and Taunsa, Taunsa and Guddu, and Guddu and Sukkur Barrages. (IUCN 2006)
The main reason for the decline of the Indus River dolphin was the construction of numerous dams and barrages, starting in the 1930's, that have fragmented the population and reduced the amount of available habitat. Another severe threat to the survival of the Indus River Dolphin is probably the increasing withdrawal of water. The Indus and Ganges River dolphin populations, previously treated as separate species, have recently been reduced to subspecies of a single species. The new species is named the "Ganges River dolphin" (Platanista gangetica), with two subspecies - the Ganges River dolphin (Platanista gangetica gangetica) and the Indus River dolphin (P. g. minor). An estimated 99% of the Indus River dolphin population occurs in only 690 linear km (430 mi). Threats and Reasons for Decline:

Size and Weight:
The Indus River dolphin measures between 1.5 - 2.5 m (5 - 8') in length and weighs 80 - 90 kg (180 - 200 lb).
Habitat:

As water levels drop in the winter, dolphins are concentrated in the remaining deep areas, including the head ponds upstream of barrages. (IUCN 2006)

Age to Maturity:
Likely 6 - 10 years (IUCN 2006).
Gestation Period:
10 - 11 months.
Birth Season:
Calving apparently can occur at any time of the year, but there may be peaks in December - January and March - May. (Culik 2003c)
Birth Rate:
The calving interval is 2 years.
Early Development:
Calves may be weaned by the time they are 1 year old.
Maximum Age:
May be close to 30 (IUCN 2006).
Diet:
The Indus River dolphin feeds on several species of fish (e.g. gobies, catfish and carp), invertebrates (e.g. prawns), and possibly turtles and birds. It does much of its feeding at or near the bottom, using echolocation, swimming on one side, and probing the river bottom with its snout and its flipper. (Culik 2003c)
Behavior:
The Indus River dolphin comes to the surface to breathe about every 30 - 120 seconds.
When the Indus was a free-flowing river, the Indus River dolphin would migrate upstream into the smaller tributaries during the monsoon rains and migrate downstream to the main channels in the dry season.
Social Organization:
Although it is not usually considered to be gregarious, relatively high densities of the Indus River dolphin are found at sites where rivers join, in areas where the current is relatively weak, off the mouths of irrigation canals, and near villages and ferry routes. In the Indus, about 40-45% of the dolphin population is found at junctions of tributaries with the mainstream, at least during the dry season, presumably being attracted to these areas by concentrations of prey. (Culik 2003c)

A male:female ratio of 2:1 has been reported.
Density:
Estimated linear density of Indus River dolphins based on surveys conducted in 2001 (IUCN 2006):
- 3.6 individuals/km (5.8 individuals/mi) in the Sindh Dolphin Reserve between the Guddu and Sukkur Barrages
- 0.74 individuals/km (1.2 individuals/mi) between the Guddu and Taunsa Barrages
- 0.28 individuals/km (0.45 individuals/mi) between the Taunsa and Chashma Barrages

Problem: Some lists of data are split into multiple pages. Example: 1900 entries are displayed on 19 pages, 100 per page. I want to extract the data WITHOUT having click the Next button and manually saving each set of data.
Examples of software are Webzip and Web Data Extractor.

for use as a sophisticated answering machine and telephone recording device. Preferably one that even allows extraction of Caller ID info (name, number, date and time). I have a notebook so I'd like recommendations for USB, firewire or PCMCIA, though I have previously bought PCI-to-USB & 1394 "Adapters" (aka housings, porters, converters and who knows what else).
Also, can you recommend great answering machine software for the device? I'd like software for detecting if a call is data (FAX exclusively for now) or Voice and directing the call as appropriate. If any of you can recommend any skeleton C code for me to play w/ that'd be awesome too, though I doubt I'll find time to play like that. I'll likely only be able to "plug-n-play" (i.e., plug in the device, load the software and that's it).
And oh.... It'd be really super if it records outgoing call info such as date, time, destination, but most importantly duration to aid in "budgeting."
