| • what is the best scanner for digtizing old photos? |

I am looking for a scanner to digitize all my family's old photos I would prefer it to be mac compatable as i know the iphoto system rather well but does not have to be as I also have a PC but am not sure what i would use to organize them then (picasa?) my problem is that we have thousands of old photos and I can not sit there endlessly scanning them. Consequentially I am looking for a scanner with some sort of feeder/automation but i CAN NOT DAMAGE THE PHOTOS! I have seen some feeder scanners but they are intended for documents and are a bit rough on the paper additionally paper is a bit more flexable due to it being thinner then photo paper. some of these photos are rather old and i do not want them to get damaged. that is the main priority a feeder/automation that doesn't hurt photos. secondary to that is if there are lots of chooses that meet the first requirement then one that also has a feature to scan slide and negatives. do you know of any scanner that can do this?

I am preparing to archive hundreds and hundreds of old family photo's and documents. I have a scanner, but on that scanner it would take years of full time work to scan all these pic's.
Do you know of a service company that could do this for me? Can you give me an idea of the cost of such a service, if there is one?
Can you recommend a really, really fast scanner for photo's, and preferrably also for negatives (I know negatives scan slower).
Also, if I do this myself, is there a software package that would be better (faster) than Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro?
Any recommendations for getting this things onto a computer disk, as well as for how to archive and index such a big collection, would be greatly appreciated!

Some business houses do like to have soft copies and create a paperless office, but, they need to maintain hard copies as well, due to the law, due to the cultural values etc. Like, say - Land records, or records of utmost importance, of cultural vallue, or perhaps banks..or other large institutions.... no mater how much we can digitize, and maintain a soft copy, a hard copy may be important for proof, for the authenticity, so ..my questioon is..what is the best solution of hard ware ..as in hard document management ? Do any one of you know a directory / company / just about aything to provide somone with the best hard..or paper storage management......ASAP

I want to buy a Scanner and as well as documents I have lots of old 35mm slides which I want to digitize.
The new Epson V350 scanner sounds good but one review said it took ages to scan 35mm slides and another said it was very fast?
Has anyone performed this function on the V350 and which review was correct?
Or should I go for the Epson Perfection 3590 (a "Which" best buy) it has been discontinued but still available?

Maybe they would turn them into PDFs or something?
By this I mean that you would send in a LOT of paper, and they would scan in double-sided sheets of powerpoint presentations, printed out Word documents, etc., and basically create PDFs (or any digital format of the stuff) and then send it to you via email or something.
Basically, I have a lot of paper and I'm moving half-way across the country, so I want to have it digitized so I don't have to ship all this paper!!
