| • Which image editing software can do that? |
|
I have to scan about 400 pages of text from a low quality original (copy of a copy of a copy, tiny font size of 6). OCR isn't needed. I have a HP Scan Jet 5590 which thankfully lets me put the loose sheets into a tray and scans all. The trouble is, if I set low resolution, the result is simply illegible. So I have to set a very high resolution (600 dpi or above) and then for each page, I have to rotate the image, reduce colour depth to 16 colours and resize the image to the size of a computer display using a Lanczos filter, then sharpen the result. Doing this costs just under a minute, which would take the better part of a workday for the whole 400 pages.
So the question is: Do you know a software which can apply the above described procedure to 400 images in a row, like a batch job? Or even a single task? I am using IrfanView for image editing, but if it has such a feature, then I was unable to find it.

| • URGENT! I need help with a computer scanner please? |
|
I have a CanaScan 8400F and I'm using a MAC OS X computer. The CanoScan program is Version 4.8
I'm trying to scan documents into OCR so that I can change the text of the document. Instead of retyping the entire document I need to scan it in, using a format that I can change (not a pdf, jpg, etc.)
I can't remember how. I can scan it fine using OCR but I can't figure out how to manipulate the document. The page comes up as a thumbnail only.
Yes. I've done it before using this computer and program but I've completely forgotten how.
I figured it out. Thank you :-) There was a "1,2,3" button that i had to push to start the recognition. I don't understand why the button didn't just say "start"! lol

| • Scan to text? |
|
A need to translate about 50 pages of text. First I needed to get the actual 50 pages scanned. My printer (an HP C4180-using it on a mac) has built in OCR software. I scanned everything from Scan-to-OCR and when I pressed accept, it went right onto the text edit screen as what looked like code but it was just a few random letters. I scanned 50 pages and got about 8 pages of random letters. I tried saving the 8 pages as .rtf but on word it still looked the same.
Did I do something wrong? Can someone help me with this? I really need this on my computer soon.

| • How to Re use the Word Document created by scanning and OCR software? |
|
I have tried to scan pdf documents and convert to Word documents with the Microsoft Office Document Imaging. When I edit the new OCR Word document, can I not save the new document and then pull up the document & edit later?
. My question has to do with after I created a Word/Tiff document from scanning a document and then converting Tiff to Word with Microsoft OCR. I can't change that document and then save it to change again later. I can change it one time and then save it. Since the OCR changes a bunch of the formatting, I'd like to convert to Word, fix the document and then be able to use that new document as a new template to make changes to.

| • Bulk Scanning and OCR - What software, can it be done? |
|
I have an old catalog (1960s), fortunately in a 3-ring binder so I can remove the pages. Its fairly small print, but few images.
I would like to scan it in, OCR it, and make it searchable by part number.
I have a Xerox Phase 6110MFP scanner, which has an automatic feeder but is NOT a duplex scanner.
So, I'm wondering if there is good software where I can run through all the odd pages, then the even pages, and it can collate into something.
Output format is important too: I don't want a 2TB TIFF format, I'd like it to break it into pages, numbered and so on.
Any suggestions?

| • Are there any bitmap editing tools to make the task easieir? |
|
In other words, I want to make a kind of OCR program but it is difficult to visualize the image from the data. If a program could show the bytes in scan line order, it would make the task at least an order of magnitude easier. In my case, it would have to display 2880 bytes on one line. I am looking for a program or utitlity that can help me do the pattern recogniction. Is there such an animal?

| • Why can't you use a document scanner to scan checks for ACH deposit? Why a special "check scanner"? |
|
I have a great Fujitsu document scanner and don't quite see why a need another piece of equipment to scan checks for deposit. I understand "check scanners" parse the symbols on the bottom of the check for transaction info, but why not just make some MICR software to convert the image post-scanning? If OCR software can convert hundreds of pages of documents to editable text, what is so difficult about recognizing a few symbols on a check for processing?
Is there some simple software available that can allow me to use my document scanner to deposit checks by extracting those symbols and converting them to a format suitable for processing?
I like the thought about the check scanner reading the magnetic "ink" not the image. But are all checks really printed with special ink? I just came across a website saying you could print payroll checks with any laser printer. How then could such a check scanner work?
(Yahoo Answers rocks. Can't believe I have people answering my questions so fast. Pretty cool.)

| • I need a document scanner to automatically scan in OCR format huge number of legal documents. Any suggestions? |
|
1.Can the scanner work unattended by anyone? 2. Can it scan into .doc format correctly? 3. Can it handle 3000 pages an hour for 8 hours everyday? 4. how long will it last, used this way? 5. Prices? 6. I need it to be bought either in India or in US. Possible? 7. Basically, I need a scanner which would be fed huge amounts of pages in a tray and then left alone. It needs to scan 60 A4 pages/minute into editable .doc format and store it in a PC, all without human supervision. Please let me know if you have any ideas.

| • What does Adobe Acrobat's OCR do? |
|
Well, I am planning to translate all valid Korean text from a jpg image to English. Now, I am currently stuck in the first step which will require me to extract the text out with an OCR. I have Adobe Acrobat 8 installed on my machine and I have used the OCR feature. Unfortunately, I was not able to achieve anything although the OCR does allow the user to scan Korean text from an image. Have anyone tried the OCR in adobe acrobat and will i be able to extract the text and export it in a simple text file? I really appreciate your help!

| • Convert PDF or TIFF to Excel or text? |
|
I have a few hard copies of some Excel files. They are mainly lists/tables with borders. I am hoping to be able to import them into Excel so that I do not have to retype hundreds of accounts. I can scan them in as either JPG (and then convert to PDF) or as a TIFF file. I do have Adobe Acrobat 7.0 professional, but I do not seem to have a good OCR converter.
Can anyone help me? What is the best/easiest way to get these files to a text format?
Thanks!
